Price of carpets

 The price and value of a carpet are calculated using the following elements:

 a) the age of the piece, 

b) its condition, 

c) the fineness of its knots, 

d) its type of dye  , 

e) the beauty of its colors and design, 

f) its provenance. 

 Example: an old carpet, dyed in the old fashion, well drawn, but threadbare, costs only half or even less than a piece of the same kind, but well preserved.  

  A rug that, while well preserved, does not present a harmonious set of colors, or whose hues are blurred or indecisive, will never fetch a high price.  It can be tied as tightly as you like, it can be dyed with natural dyes or it can be from a famous source, no one will want to pay for it the price it should in fact fetch, given its quality.
